Supporting Female Apparel Workers

Through partnerships in Seethawaka, Wathupitiwala, Koggala, and Pallekele , we’re providing thousands of female apparel workers with access to reproductive health services, counselling and and education. The project also strengthens factory-level health systems and collaborates with women’s networks to ensure sustained well-being.

“Even though there was some initial opposition from society because it deals with family planning, later, when people saw the social service provided through this centre, they changed their views. Pregnant mothers greatly benefit from this. It would be valuable if these services could be expanded further. Furthermore, awareness about sexually transmitted diseases/HIV should be increased. For instance, the BOI zone can be considered as a location for a centre. In such free trade and investment zones, because people live far away from their families, illicit relationships occur. This leads to legal and social/family problems.”
BOI representative, Wathupitiwala

“We’ve been working with FPA for over five years, with my own involvement spanning the past three and a half. At MAS, we place strong emphasis on social sustainability, which is why FPA’s work is well-recognized and accepted across the organization. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to provide essential services like medical check-ups and counselling, making a meaningful difference in our employees’ well-being”
